Stevns - "Elverkongensrige"
Magleby church from about 1200 was built of chalk-stone in the Romanesque style. Of the orginal chruch, only the long-walls in the middle part of the nave remain.
The older part of the porch dates from the Gothic time, appr. 1300. At the time of the Reformation, the porch was heigttened. The east window is a re-opened Romanesque window. The Chapel facing north dates from appr. 1500.
The nave choir superseded the original Romanesque nave which was heightened and furnished with four cross-vaults. The vestry facing north dates from the same period. The present spire was built in 1855. The sepulchral chapel with red bricks was erected in the 17th century.
The Altarpiece dates from 1606 and was made by the so-called Master of Tryggevælde. The tree female hermas in the top piece symbolize Faith, Hope and Justice. The paintings date from 1610. The pulpit in High Renaissance dates from 1614; the original paintings depict the virtues. - The organ was built in 1985.
