Winter in Knuthenborg Park

Visit Knuthenbog Park in the winter and have a completely different experience as the park dons her Christmas outfit.
The animals have all moved to their indoor stables for the winter, whilst the manor park with its ancient trees, unique architecture and special planting create a wondrous sight during the autumn and winter.

One of the country’s largest manor gardens – Knuthenborg – will now become accessible to the public during a part of the winter season. The first time ever that the doors will open for autumn is on the 27-28th of October 2007 and thereafter the park will be open every weekend until the 23rd of December. During the winter months a number of the animals will have moved indoors to their stables, therefore these weekend openings will primarily focus on nature experiences. Knuthenborg offers a rich variety of nature activities, such as vegetation safari by the lake (“Svanesøen”), a treasure hunt and similar. Visitors can also visit the rhinoceroses and the lemurs.

The Knuth Family traces its roots through thirteen generations, all integral to the history of Denmark. The exciting retelling of this story is retold by Baroness Charlotte Knuth at her ancestral home during the winter.

Knuthenborg CastleBriefly about the Parks history

Baron Eggert Christoffer Knuth, eight generation in the Knuth line, built the approx. 400 hectare park in the mid 19th century, inspired by the English manor parks. The man behind the plan was Edward Milner, responsible for the final creation in 1881. As something entirely unique, the entire park is surrounded by a giant boulder wall 7.5km long and 2.5m high. Christoffer Knuth’s father, Baron Adam W. Knuth – 12th generation – established the safari park in 1969, which today is the biggest attraction of the manor park.
