Sct. Bendt's church - Ringsted

St Bendt’s church is the earliest brick-built church in Denmark. The church was officially consecrated in 1170 and at the same time Knud Lavard was declared a saint and the crown prince, Knud VI, was crowned. The church was then used as a sepulchral church of the Valdemars from 1182–1341 and was thus Denmark’s first royal church. It has many beautiful frescos.

Roskilde Cathedral

Bishop Absalon began construction of today’s church building in the 1170s.
The church is famous as a sepulchral church for Danish royalty. It has only a few royal graves from medieval times, but since the Reformation in 1536, all Danish kings – and almost all queens – have been buried here.
In 1995, the cathedral was added to UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage sites.

Vor Frue Kirke - Kalundborg

(Church of Our Lady)
Billede af Vor Frue Kirke i KalundborgThis is the only church in Denmark with five towers. It was established around 1200 with a floorplan in the shape of a Greek cross. At each end of the four arms of the cross, there is an octagonal tower, and there is a square tower in the middle.
The builder, Esbern Snare, may have found inspiration from Russia, where there are wooden churches of the same design.
